Psychology

What is psychology?

Psychology comes from the Greek word “psyche,” meaning soul or mind, and focuses on understanding and treating thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. It plays a vital role in addressing mental health, improving emotional well-being, processing trauma, and fostering personal growth. Psychologists use various evidence-based methods such as talk therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), mindfulness, and personalized guidance, all tailored to the client’s needs and goals. Therapy is always individual and client-centered. Regardless of age, every treatment is adapted for optimal mental well-being. Psychology has a positive impact on daily functioning and helps people live with greater resilience and balance.

Psychological support for children, adolescents, young adults, and adults:
Many people choose to see a psychologist when they feel stuck in their thoughts or emotions, for example due to prolonged stress, anxiety, depressive feelings, or relationship problems. Psychological support helps in recognizing and addressing these patterns.
We use various techniques, such as cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), which explores the connection between thoughts, emotions, and behaviours.
Relaxation exercises, mindfulness, and solution-focused therapies may also be used to address stress and other mental challenges.
The goal is to help you cope more effectively with difficulties, reach your goals, and strengthen both psychological resilience and prevention.

Psychological Diagnostics

“Why can’t I get anything done, even though I really want to?”
“Why does everything seem to move so much faster for others?”
“Even a short conversation can leave me feeling completely drained.”

Maybe that feeling sounds familiar. ADHD and autism spectrum disorders (ASD) rarely present in just one way. They can hide behind procrastination, sensory overload, fatigue, performance anxiety — or simply the sense that you’re somehow “different”. Many people have felt for years that something doesn’t sit right, but struggle to put it into words.

Through psychological diagnostics/assessment, we explore that together. This may lead to a formal diagnosis, but that’s not where the process ends. We believe it’s important to look beyond the label: we examine how things show up in your daily life, what supports or hinders you, and what you need in order to move forward.

The process starts with an intake session. During this conversation, we identify your questions and concerns and outline what the next steps may look like. We value clarity — also for you, as a client. The intake is not only meant to understand your story, but also to clearly explain what you can expect from us and what possible follow-up steps are available.

In addition, we also offer stand-alone intelligence testing. This can be requested, for example, by a speech and language therapist, in case of suspected giftedness, or simply to gain a better understanding of your cognitive strengths and challenges.

You don’t need to have a fully formed story. You’re welcome just as you are.

! Please note: psychological assessments (diagnostics) are currently offered in Dutch only at our practice.
