Dietetics

What is dietetics?

Dietetics is the application of scientific knowledge about nutrition to human health, both in prevention and in the context of illness. It can help prevent certain health problems, support medical treatment, promote recovery, and maintain or improve quality of life.

Dietetics is intended for people at every stage of life: children, adolescents, adults, and older people. Nutritional needs vary according to growth, age-related changes, level of physical activity, and health status. Dietitians also take into account each person’s lifestyle, abilities, goals, and preferences in order to provide personalized support.

The aim is to develop realistic and sustainable eating habits together with the person, in a way that fits into their daily life. It is not only about knowing what to eat, but also about finding ways to integrate food into the person’s social life, cultural practices, and possibilities.

After all, eating is not only about providing the body with energy. It is also about enjoyment, discovery, sharing, and connecting with others. Even when dietary changes are necessary for medical reasons, every effort should be made to preserve the taste, variety, and enjoyment of food.

Dietetics is therefore not about imposing diets or strict rules. Rather, it aims to find a balance between health, personal needs, and the pleasure of eating. In this way, food does not become a restriction, but a way of taking care of yourself — at every age, with room for both health and enjoyment.
